One & Only

Before God wants us to be law keepers, He wants us to be in relationship with Him.  The first two commandments set us up to make the biggest decision of our lives.

1) "You shall have no other Gods before me."  God doesn't want to be the first of many gods or of one of many.  The Israelites had come out of Egypt, a culture that had gods for everything.  God wants to be the ONLY God - - our provider, our deliverer, our healer - - our everything.  If we can settle this ONE issue in our lives, everything else will fall into place.

2)"You shall make for yourself an idol of anything, for I, the Lord, am a jealous God."   How can an idol made by the hands of men represent an infinite God?  

John 4:24  God wants us to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.  If God is in control of our lives we don't have to worry about ANYthing.  Don't shrink God down to less than what He is.

In Exodus 20, vs 5 , we read that God punishes the children for the sins for the father unto the third and fourth generations, BUT we should take hope in verse 6 because He shows love to a THOUSAND generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

Am I funneling all my decisions through God, who loves me and wants to bless me?  Have I made God the one and only in my life?  Search us God to see if we have anyone else before you.  Help us make you FIRST.
