Sermon Highlights from the series “Breakout” - Purpose
Ecclesiastes 2:24 – 26a “A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, 25for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? 26To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, . . .” What do you believe your purpose is in life? What you believe about it will drive the kind of choices you make with your time, relationships, finances - - everything.
God is doing something big in our world. Asking the why question leads to purpose. Why am I here? Why did God create me? “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. (God has the power to thwart man’s plans) 11But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” Psalm 33:8-11 (God’s plans stand forever.)
God invites you and me to play a part in what He is doing that surpasses our lifetimes. In Matthew 28:19, 20, Jesus says to his followers, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” God gives you and me an invitation to something bigger than our single lifetime.
Pray that God will reveal his purpose for you and your children. We don’t want to miss God’s purpose for us for a lifetime nor even a season.
Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
